Everybody Wants the Flavor

Culture travels. Ownership, responsibility and the people who made the culture should travel with it.

Everybody wants the flavor, the slang, the rhythm, the cool, the danger, the confidence, the style. Culture moves. People borrow, remix and build with what they have seen. That is real. What is also real is how quickly the story gets cleaned up once the thing becomes valuable.

Very few people want the burden, the prejudice, the surveillance, the family wounds, the spiritual weight or the responsibility that created it. That gap is where the conversation lives for me. I am not asking anyone to freeze culture or pretending culture belongs to one person. I am asking who gets the check, who gets to set the terms, and who is expected to stay grateful for being invited into something they helped make valuable.

Everybody wants nigga culture until a real one starts thinking like a bank. That line is meant to create friction. It says the quiet part plainly: people will celebrate the expression and still be uncomfortable when the people behind it ask about ownership, credit, access and control.

Poverty taught me risk before I knew what underwriting was. I am not saying struggle is a business school or that hardship is a gift. I am saying experience can leave you with a way of reading pressure. The challenge is turning that instinct into a system you can explain, test and pass on instead of leaving it trapped in survival mode.

I am naming the room I came from, the rooms I sit in now and the lie everybody tells between the two. The lie says you have to choose: be authentic or be strategic; be close to your people or understand capital; speak plainly or be taken seriously. I do not accept that choice.

Culture deserves more than applause after the value has already moved somewhere else. Learn the business behind the influence. Understand the terms. Build position. Protect what you build.

Innovate. Empower. Dominate.
